Anthony M. Rud's "Ooze" was the cover novelette of the first issue of Weird Tales: a pulp-era collision of field investigation, biological speculation, family duty, and swamp horror. The tale begins not with the experiment itself, but with a ruined Alabama house, local dread, and a narrator trying to clear a dead friend's name before a child inherits only rumor.

This miniature edition keeps the novelette apart from the surrounding magazine issue and gives it a full LitLab companion. The plates introduce the household, the witnesses, the scientific circuit, and the swamp geography before the notebook changes what those clues mean.
