Carl Ramus's "The Scar" opens in a New York doctor's office and turns a kidnapping case, a medical emergency and a hidden facial mark into a tense Weird Tales novelette.

This LitLab edition starts at the story heading in the April 1923 issue of Weird Tales and stops before the magazine interstitial "Thrillers Make Audiences Warm." It preserves the unnumbered opening movement and the authored sections II through VI as six reading movements.

The visual edition treats suspense through rooms, hands, documents, surgical urgency and moral pressure. It does not show surgical gore, violence in the act or injury as spectacle.
