author of a 1923 Weird Tales revenge story

The name Victor Johns appears beneath “The Hideous Face” in the April 1923 issue of Weird Tales. The magazine’s contents page calls it a tale of revenge, and the story begins in Marseille before moving into the account of an artist and a disfigured former model. Those are facts about the published fiction; they do not establish the author’s own birthplace, occupation or life history.

The record remains unusually thin. A later survey of the issue notes that Johns had published another story in Argosy All-Story Weekly in 1922 and returned there in 1925, but that he is otherwise difficult to identify in the available reference material. The sources checked for this page do not securely establish dates, a fuller name, or a portrait that can be tied to the byline. The entry therefore preserves the name exactly as printed and treats the author’s identity as unverified. This is a bibliographic account of a traceable magazine credit, not a claim that the plot of “The Hideous Face” describes its writer.
